On Sunday 26th April 2020, Team Ben Hammond should have been making their annual journey to the London Marathon to cheer on over 100 Cardiac Risk in the Young runners including our own Phil Sweatman.
Unfortunately the event was postponed, but this did not stop TBH. To keep the spirit of London going Phil joined the 2.6 challenge and crazily decided to run 2.6 miles backwards in his tractor costume!
Phil along with his ever so supportive family took to the start line shortly after 10:00am. From Hookstead Green they ran along the A28 towards Tenterden. As they reached the home of Steve, Sheralyn and Archie a number of supporters clapped and cheered them on.
The Hammond family had kindly adorned their front fence with banners and messages willing the team on! A much needed boost as the difficulty and pain of running backwards with a tractor was becoming apparent.
Throughout the morning the donations continued to poor in. At around midday the donation to ensure our goal was made. Phil commented:
‘ Once again I am truly humbled by people’s kindness. Thank you to everyone who has supported us. You are all amazing!’
The finish couldn’t come soon enough but they had completed the challenge. A fantastic achievement by them, and to reach the fundraising target really was the icing on the cake! Thank you.
